Volunteer

The youth ministry at Oak Grove UMC thrives in large part due to our incredible volunteer team.   As our youth ministry continues to grow, we are hopeful that our volunteer team will as well.  Please read about the different ways in which you can get involved below, and if you are interested in volunteering, email the listed contact person for that volunteer area.

 

YOUTH VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Caring for Clarkston (C4C) Food Pantry Helper

 Assist with sorting food and preparing boxes to be taken to Clarkston United Methodist Church (CUMC). Assist in distributing the food at CUMC once a month on the scheduled Saturday.  4 hours once a month on a Saturday distributing food at CUMC.  Contact: Jen Wahlen at wahlens@comcast.net  

Praise Band Tech and Backstage 

Youth in 6th – 12th grades that enjoy running sound boards, lights, and videos for a band are invited to train and learn how to run the sound systems in the Youth Hall, the Fellowship Hall, and the Sanctuary.  Contact: Atticus Hicks at ahicks@ogumc.org

Praise Band Member    

If you are in grades 6th-12th  and enjoy singing, playing the drums, guitar and/or piano, you are invited to practice with the band until positions are available to become a Youth Praise Band member.  Contact: Atticus Hicks at ahicks@ogumc.org

Student Leadership Team 

Youth in 9th – 12th grades qualify to be on the Youth Leadership Team. Meet monthly to enjoy fellowship, grow in faith, figure out ways in which you can serve as a student leader, and come up with ideas regarding the future of our community.  Team members make decisions for retreats, mission projects, and weekly and monthly programs. Caring for Clarkston (C4C) Pantry Leadership Team

Be a part of the monthly planning sessions focused on the various areas running a pantry: greeter, interviewer, children’s ministry area, food packaging area, food runner. Contact: Jen Wahlen at wahlens@comcast.net

Christmas Tree Lot Shift Leader 

Work a shift(s) at the Youth Annual Christmas Tree Lot (begins the day after Thanksgiving and continues until all trees are sold).  Work alongside the youth community building relationships and having fun selling trees. 3 – 4 hour shifts available.  Contact: Shannon Higgins at shiggins@ogumc.org

Confirmation Friend in Faith 

Invest in the life of an 8th grade youth by journeying beside him/her as he/she goes through the Confirmation process.  Meetings on Sunday mornings in the Youth building and various other activities (service project, bowling, and attending a Church Council meeting). Disciple Group (“D” Group) Leader 

Co-lead a small group of high school students.  As each disciple group consists of students of the same gender and similar ages, they cultivate lasting friendships and transformational faith.   3 hours a week in preparation and meeting time. Contact: Andy Webb at awebb@ogumc.org.

Meal Team

Join one of our Youth Food Ministry Teams and help serve dinners on Sunday nights. 3 hours on Sunday nights serving 100-150 youth. Contact: Shannon Higgins at shiggins@ogumc.org.

Sunday School Teacher 

Work with 6th, 7th, 8th, or High School age youth on Sunday mornings in the Youth building.  2-3 hours per week including preparation time and teaching time. Contact: Shannon Higgins at shiggins@ogumc.org.

Youth Bus Driver 

Drive one of the church buses for various youth outings and activities.  Hours depend on activity and outing. Contact: Shannon Higgins at shiggins@ogumc.org.
